Winners of 2022 “If I Were Mayor” state essay contest announced

The Virginia Municipal League (VML) announced today the statewide winner and seven regional winners of the “If I Were Mayor” Essay Contest. The contest, hosted by VML, drew hundreds of entries from seventh graders throughout the state. The challenge to the students was to identify an issue in their locality, talk to others about possible solutions, and then identify what solution would best address the issue. Winners of 2021 VML “If I Were Mayor” state essay contest announced

The Virginia Municipal League (VML) announced today the statewide winner and five regional winners of the “If I Were Mayor” Essay Contest. The contest, hosted by VML, drew hundreds of entries from seventh graders throughout the state. The challenge to the students was to describe what worked (and did not work) for them during the past year of schooling during a pandemic. They were also asked to explain how they would, as mayor of their community, make the lessons they have learned work for everyone. View full news release >

Virginia Municipal League Announces Winners of the 2019 Innovation Awards in Local Government

The Virginia Municipal League (VML) is pleased to announce the winners of its annual awards for excellence in local government. The statewide competition recognizes innovative problem-solving, excellence in management, citizen participation, and improved services to citizens. VML received more than 50 entries, from which judges selected one winner in each of six categories. One of the category winners will be chosen by VML president and Roanoke council member Anita James Price to receive the President’s Award. Read full news release >
